Black Rock Desert Area
I spent some time exploring one of my favorite areas — the Black Rock Desert — before heading north towards home.
Rabbithole Springs (cold)
The Empire Gas Station — "Welcome to Nowhere". Here I had my second of three flat tires. This time it was a sharp pebble jammed in so hard I couldn't pull it out.
At Sulphur, I had my third flat tire. Luckily I could repair this one with a plug.
Macfarlane Hot Spring. From a large white conical mound bubbles hot water, which has been channeled into a muddy circular bathing area.
In Nevada, there are still cowboys who tend to cattle on horseback.
Dyke Hot Springs. There were some slimy bathtubs positioned in the ravine for soaking, but the real attraction was the beautiful pond full of wildlife, with birds, fish, and croaking frogs.
Pinto Hot Springs. Only a small muddy bathing area, but the springs themselves are very colorful. And I spotted what I think are some of the namesake pintos running nearby.
There's another small hot spring just to the west, but the area is muddy and full of cows.
Devil's Faucet, a nice clear little hot pool with a dock. It looks like it's on private land. There were some noisy mules nearby.
Bog Hot Springs. There are a set of large trenches full of piping-hot water, with one area set up for bathing.
