Speed Week

It was Speed Week time at the Bonneville Salt Flats! So, I had to stick around a few days and check out the scene — and the colorful collection of crazy cars and motorcycles.

The nearby area was littered with campers and RVs. The salt flats right around the official entrance was flooded just after the end of the pavement.

The Waiting Lines. Pretty much everyone was here to race or support racers, with few spectators. The racers spent their days waiting in a set of four long lines for their turn to speed — before returning to the end of the line to race again.

The starting line — lots of anticipation and sound of revving unmuffled engines. Some vehicles are push-started by a partner vehicle.
