Vibora Canyon
Olive Plantation
Continuing south, I passed what had been an enormous active olive tree plantation on my previous trips. This time it seemed abandoned. The sign was gone from the gate and almost all the olive trees were dead. A few trees were still desperately trying to survive without irrigation.
Vibora Canyon Area
I then decided to explore some sites south of Guadalupe Canyon, in the Vibora Canyon area. These are minor unnamed canyons south of a larger canyon marked as "Vibora" on my maps.
Here's the first canyon, with palms, metates, and plenty of rock art. The rocks in the area are a Swiss cheese of bubbly holes, some of which were grottos large enough to sleep inside.
Here's the second palm oasis canyon in the Vibora area, just a few miles south of the first. There is some trickling water at the spring, and a few petroglyphs. A few miles of hiking up the canyon are required after reaching the end of the faint access "road".
