Izamal
Arriving at Izamal around sundown, we found the streets lined with children holding water balloons, and police looking ready for action. It was the night of Izamal's Carnaval celebration!

Just like in Valladolid, costumed people and float vehicles paraded around and around the city streets. Even the police joined in the parade! Along with the other kids, Lyra ate the snacks, rode the rides, and bounced on a double-decker trampoline.
Los Arcos
We ate dinner at Los Arcos, which was low-key but had excellent food — and had an great view of the Carnaval chaos with people parading right by our sidewalk table.

Hacienda Hotel Santo Domingo
We stayed at Hacienda Hotel Santo Domingo, which we enjoyed very much. They also have a campground for self-contained overland explorers.

The morning after, the streets of Izamal were littered with abandoned Carnaval floats.
Kinich Kakmo Ruin
Right in the middle of town are the remains of a pyramid temple, the ruin of Kinich Kakmo, which has been partially restored.
