Townsville
Visiting Liz & Joel
The Strand
Bathers swim inside giant jellyfish-proof nets, or wear "stinger suits".
Note the warning signs, and bottle of vinegar provided to alleviate potential stings — died blue to discourage
its use as a condiment.
Town Common beach
Cooking up some "snags" & veggies on the free public gas barbeques on the Strand. Lyra had fun studying the ants, geckos, and other little Australian critters.
Castle Hill looks over Townsville. We checked out the panoramic view, with
Magnetic Island is visible in the distance — and cooled ourselves with the
solar-powered water mister in hilltop the parking lot.
Meat Pies — very popular.
We tried as many new fruits as possible at the Townsville Market.
Drive-through liquor stores are popular here.
These brave kookaburras flew right up onto Liz & Joel's balcony.
Pioneer Park
We went for a swim at Pioneer Park's fabulous swimming pool. Pools are nice because they don't have crocodiles or dangerous jellyfish.
Skin cancer with sun exposure is also a big pool. Sunscreen is provided, and part of the pool was shaded.
Billabong Sanctuary
Kangaroo Feeding
Rainbow Lorikeet
Cassowary — It loves grapes.
Wombat — a giant docile teddy bear.
Dingos — wild dogs.
Crocodiles
Many more animals — Koala, Miniature Wallaby, Emu, Magpie Goose, Turtles, Bush Turkey, Black Cockatoo, Plumed Whistling Duck
