Backcountry Adventure Series Books
Backcountry Adventure Series
The Backcountry Adventure Series (by Peter Massey and Jeanne Wilson) is an amazing compilation of backcountry roads & jeep trails for California, Arizona, Utah, and Colorado. They include detailed maps, history, turn-by-turn waypoints with GPS coordinates, a trail ratings, and beautiful colorful photographs. I just can't say enough about these fantastic books!
As of 2008, the Backcountry Adventure Series - Southern California book is out of print. It and the rest of the Backcountry Adventure Series is being replaced by the new Trails series, which also includes a new Nevada Trails - Western Region book.
GPS Routes
Alder Publishing provides GPS routes for all the trails listed in the Backcountry Adventure Series books, but unfortunately they're only given in the obscure Maptech (RXF) format, rather than the more popular Garmin GPX or Google Earth (KMZ) formats.
I've converted these Backcountry Adventure Series tracks into Garmin (GPX) format:
- Backcountry Adventure Series GPS routes, Arizona - in Garmin (GPX) format
- Backcountry Adventure Series GPS routes, California (North) - in Garmin (GPX) format
